Commerce Guys Hires Ryan Szrama

Commerce Guys, leading experts in Drupal and Ubercart e-commerce integration, is announcing the expansion of its team to include Ryan Szrama, the lead developer of Ubercart. Hiring Ryan is a natural move for the company, which has worked closely with the Ubercart project and Ryan directly since Ubercart's alpha release days.

Growing Ubercart as a Commerce Guy

Ubercart was founded in late September 2006 by Prima Supply, a restaurant equipment sales company in Louisville, KY eager to provide a user friendly, ready to use e-commerce solution for Drupal.

Since its inception, Ryan has led the development of the code and community behind Ubercart. Dubbed "Mr. Ubercart" by members of the Drupal community, Ryan has promoted the project and supported its users and developers through Drupal conferences, training seminars, and literally thousands of documentation pages and forum posts on Ubercart.org and Drupal.org.

Ryan will maintain his role as the Ubercart project lead as a Commerce Guy. With Ubercart nearing a 2.0 release, he will continue to shape the direction of the project into the next version and beyond. His overarching goal will be to focus community development efforts on optimizing the core code and simplifying the selling process for more types of products in more countries.

Renewed Focus: Expanding Contributors to Ubercart

Commerce Guys is devoted to supporting the development of the Ubercart code and to bringing in more direct contributors to the project. "The potential gain for the Ubercart community is huge," reports Ryan. "The battle plans drawn up for the 3.x development are daunting to say the least. Having my time freed up to do core development and work on integrating more contributors will be a big win for Ubercart."

Members of the Ubercart community should not expect any disruptions to the normal flow of support and development. Plans have been laid for Ryan to continue to work closely with Lyle Mantooth, the co-maintainer of Ubercart. Ryan will also carry into his new job his enthusiasm to see Ubercart continue to develop into a mature e-commerce solution that is user focused and community driven.
