Commerce Guys Spearheading Donation Collections with Ubercart

During Drupalcon DC the Commerce Guys met with members of Drupal's Churches group to discuss what it would take to have more robust donations support in Ubercart.

The initial conversation led to a good summary and discussion of donation needs. These were solidified into a development specification that has been reviewed and revised as necessary.

This is by no means set in stone, but as it stands, Ryan's current estimate for the proposed development is $3,000. Members of the community have already pledged to support the initiative, but all are welcome and encouraged to chip in to the pot to see these features developed and released to the community!

The goal has been met!

Special Thanks to project47 and Mustardseed Media

Hopefully this will be done and posted on Drupal.org by May 22nd.

Thank you to everyone!

Hey all... As of this

Hey all...
As of this comment, there's a little more than $2k to raise on this chipin. If anyone else donates $1,000 to this chipin, Mustardseed Media will match that amount, leaving us within spitting distance of the target amount.

I'll monitor this, but if anyone takes up this challenge, please tweet Rob_Feature to let me know and I'll do the matching donation.

Thanks CommerceGuys! Looking forward to this!

This is good to hear although

This is good to hear although I am surprised at the need to reinvent the wheel when CiviCRM has excellent donations support.

Is there something in the CiviCRM feature set that makes it unsuitable for Church groups?

Among the Drupal church

Among the Drupal church group, CiviCRM is generally considered cludgy for the typical church workflow. Churches have a lot of differences from typical non-profits that are not handled comfortably in CiviCRM. Additionally, the "Drupal way" is pretty much modular. Having a piece that melds into others allows for much greater flexibility and personalization of the solution. Churches have personalities like people. Rarely do they ever do things in a uniform way.

So what happened? The chipIn

So what happened? The chipIn is showing a total of zero. I believe we've at the least passed $2k.

I work for a non-profit that is not a church and I find CiviCRM to be a bit too much for our organization. It's a very "heavy" application.

The end date was set for 4/17

The end date was set for 4/17 and I forgot to extend it, the balance at the time was $1370.
I made a new chip-in to reflect the difference.

Please close this chipin.

Please close this chipin. We're covering the remaining balance with a check in the mail. Thanks!
