Drupalcon DC a Crazy Good Time
As with every Drupal community event we've been a part of, Drupalcon DC was a crazy good time. This latest conference marked the first time the Commerce Guys were present in full force. We managed to show up a little early to help pass out t-shirts at registration and were happy to see that the pistachio shirts actually went over quite well.
In spite of the after parties and missed sleep, we managed to get a lot done in DC and have a great time doing it. We were able to meet at least a couple hundred Ubercart users and developers to hear about the stores and modules they're building, toss around ideas for the future, and trade business cards. The two Ubercart sessions presented by Ryan were delivered to packed rooms and were very well received. The Advanced Ubercart Usage session was even tweeted as "the best thing to happen to #Drupal for ecommerce ever" and reported elsewhere as half an hour too short.
Advanced Ubercart Usage was in fact a tour de force through some core and contributed modules that showcase the flexibility of Ubercart. Ryan demonstrated how to sell a physical and digital version of a product through the same node, how to use UC Node Access to sell access to premium content on a site, and how to use UC Node Checkout to sell event registrations. The live demo went off without a hitch and sparked a lot of good discussion and excitement about the things Ubercart can do. Be sure to watch the video of the session if you're interested, and be on the lookout for those topics and more to show up in our Ubercart resources section.
We also scheduled and attended a few BoF sessions to do some more Ubercart Q/A, brainstorm about Ubercart and QuickBooks integration, and get some planning done on using Ubercart for donations with members of the churches and non-profit Drupal groups.
Last but not least... the food! The boxed lunches were nothing special, but we managed to grab an awesome dinner every night, including All-American brew burgers, yummy Thai cuisine, and plates full of awesome from the Mongolian grill near the venue. Thursday evening we joined near 100 people for an incredibly yummy Ethiopian Uberdinner (including one person who had never heard of that weird "Ubercart" thing). Good food, hundreds of friends from around the world, and some super cool software to chat about made for one incredible week.
